Adro - The New Me - Adro The Biggest Loser in Weightloss

“While I was on location filming The Biggest Loser, I said to people; ‘If I can go home and know that I have made my oldest brother want to start to do something about his 189kgs then I would be happy’; That was just the tip of the iceberg, I have in fact helped and inspired him and thousands more than just him.”

“What I didn’t realise was the positive impact I would have on not only my entire family but on the Australian public”, from children all the way through to adults, female and male with and without weight problems.

Since becoming a public figure and in a way an ambassador for weight loss I have been humbled by thousands of people approaching me to “congratulate me; and to wish me all the best for my well earned future”. Their comfort in approaching me about obesity being either their own or that of a loved one is also amazing, these strangers telling me how I have inspired them, or asking for my help to assist them.

“I want to spend my future helping them; what drives me, is knowing that if I had of met someone who was putting the effort into wanting to help me lose weight, then I could have done something about my weight before 26 years of age. It only took someone to have a little faith in me for me to see that I was worth it. I want to help people now see that they are worth it!”

I have had a lot of people email, call, message and speak to me about what they think could be important in a weight loss program. Most people do not watch The Biggest Loser to see fighting and feuding; they watch it because they want to see ordinary people doing extraordinary things; and that is to lose weight and find themselves. I want to give this opportunity to the everyday Australian through my retreat.

Wanting to lose weight, needing to lose weight, and actually losing weight when clinically obese is not a simple task, and yes it took the TV program to assist me to finally put my life on track, I have now been able to make a true lifestyle change because of the lessons I learnt during and since the show, and wish to give the everyday Australian the same opportunity I was given.

“Do I think that I could have or would have done something about my weight other then more of the past failed attempts without the concept and structure of what The Biggest Loser offered me?........ Absolutely not! I owe everything to the lessons learned from The Biggest Loser and the ‘failure is not an option style boot camp set up that I was privy too’
I would have continued to live my life telling myself that I wasn’t deserving or physically able to either lose weight or be thin.”

At the finale, after I won the title of ‘The Biggest Loser’,

‘I promised Australia that I was going to help them lose weight’

Along with my own journey, I have found a great direction and passion towards helping more than just 12 people on a reality TV show, 'The New Me' is how I intend on keeping this promise.

“'The New Me' is a concept birthed by my own personal experiences during The Biggest Loser. The ideas behind this concept are based on a formula which I believe is necessary to ensure successful weight loss over a short term but for the long term. I have moved down to the Morning ton Peninsula in Victoria where we will be opening our very first 'The New Me'”

During my weight loss journey I picked up a lot of things that helped me to lose weight the right way; there were also a lot of things I've learnt since that were not shown to me that I have found to be brilliant tools in aiding my weight loss and sustaining it.
Being essentially  an obesity assistance and personal development retreat; one that will make a real difference, and most importantly be accessible to Australians who are obese and overweight and in a spiralling decent, who need more than just a gym and diet, it is really important to find a balance in order to achieve success; the recipe contains key ingredients which 'The New Me' will make available to each and every member; these ingredients are “attitude, food intake and exercise”  my motto now is “eat smart, move more, think thin.” They need this in the form of education, support and the ability to believe in themselves.

In an environment inspired by my real life experiences and activities as I was put through on ‘The Biggest Loser’ we are working at duplicating my four months; the four months that without the stresses of creating a television program were vital; “vital in reclaiming my life, a healthy weight and lifestyle and becoming all and who I wanted to be.”

“I will be running the retreat with Ray Kelly the master behind my success and determination once I left the house; (Ray also trained Chris to his success in series 2) with Ray and I side by side as head trainers as well as coaches 'The New Me' has been created by me in ways that only I could duplicate what I went through in order to secure success as the winner of The Biggest Loser.”

“If I only knew that losing weight the right way with exercise and a modified diet would only have taken me four months of my life, there is no way in the world I would have wasted 26 years of my life waiting around to have done it”

I'm offering my interpretation of The Biggest Loser and making it available to the whole of Australia

The New Me will incorporate all of the tools necessary for each member to learn to reclaim their own life through weight loss, personal well being and most important personal development and growth.

It dawned on me during my amazing and life changing stay at Camp Eden that the “get away” of a retreat is what is needed to find one's self along with the fail safe methods guaranteeing weight loss of The Biggest Loser. Combining them with the support and trust in knowing that you are being led in the footsteps of someone who has walked the walk and won the battle, gave me the combination that I know will leave little to chance in order to obtain success.

“Losing weight and more importantly keeping it off is not just about shedding the kilograms, it starts and finishes on so much of a deeper level then that; there will be a lot of the points and issues that will be raised and dealt with at 'The New Me' retreat; bearing in mind that some 67% of men and 45% of women are overweight or obese in Australia today I feel that having real issues covered could be a hugely beneficial avenue to pursue. I am constantly asked for answers and solutions to individuals’ weight loss problems and asked for solutions and remedies or recommendations for dieting, snacking, exercise and so on. I even have people email me who just need to tell me about the time they were abused or lost a loved one and started gaining weight from then on and how they want to do something about it; I also receive follow up emails telling me how much it helped that they told me there problem, and vented and addressed it.”

The initial program will be a boot camp style process that will make goal setting and determination a must, and development of the necessary skills will be inevitable. This will be offered to the public at a very well refined price. 'The New Me' will be in the form of a retreat; a facility that is specifically designed with weight loss and personal development in mind.

“I believe that the main reason the concept of The Biggest Loser works so well is the fact that it takes us out of our everyday common environment; one of the main benefits and the key element to doing it this way is because you are eliminating distractions and taking out the sabotages of everyday life”

'The New Me' will offer this exact formula because it works. This is what all other programs and diets lack; the ability to change your environment for a period of time until you have become programmed in a way that benefits you and is complimentary to your new lifestyle. We will also be ensuring that the life lessons needed to practically guarantee the longevity of your weight loss success are set in stone before you leave the compound.

“Physically I needed to be pushed past the limits I had spent forever telling myself I had, and mentally I needed to know I couldn’t give up, and emotionally I needed to be separated from all of the things that normally worked against my success. Whether they be obvious and in everyday life or unconscious and not really reality; I needed all of those elements and sabotages changed”

The New Me will cover all grounds necessary from in store medical advice and professional training, to seminar facilities, active kitchen with interactive cooking and classes to a shopping network available to minimise the everyday sabotages of daily shopping once you return home.

The program will run for a minimum of 2 weeks, although I strongly recommend any guests stay for at least 4 weeks to make some solid and important changes in their lives as well as drop serious weight. I know that some people cannot afford to spend that kind of time frame away from their lives but trust me, speaking from experience; you get to a point in your life where you think "what am I not now willing to give up in order to fix this?"
I know that I got to the point where I was willing to give up everything and I know that my stay on the biggest loser for 12 weeks really made the big changes.
I didn't really embrace the situation until about week 3 and so, with that I don't believe that a stay less than a week is worthwhile and I know that the most impacting changes will take place after 3 or 4 weeks.
There is no limit to the length of time someone stays, they are more than welcome to stay until they reach their goal weight. The choice is yours.*

A full medical and a sign off from your local GP is a pre-requisite for attending and a doctor's referral is recommended for all applications that will be overlooked by our exercise physiologists and therapists to ensure the utmost care is taken for applicant approvals.

* There would also be life classes for children; also teaching them more responsibility by having them participate in more chores around the grounds etc

Classes and lessons taught during their visit would include:

  • Training
  • Cooking
  • Food awareness
  • Restaurant challenges
  • Sporting/fitness challenges
  • Shopping challenges
  • Support Groups

Training

The exercise prescribed would be explained in detail, showing the viewers how to safely perform each exercise and how to safely design their own exercise programs. Important topics would also be covered such as common overuse injuries, progressive overload, injury rehabilitation, exercise contra-indications (high blood pressure, medications, etc).

The trainers could be with the groups twice each day (making emphasis on mornings and afternoons) which would then allow the individuals to train on their own to ensure they put in their own efforts. The training would focus on a variety of things relevant to weight loss such as active recovery, fitness improvements and muscle growth and toning.

A variety of sessions could be done from boot camp to beach workouts, orientation and bush walks to controlled circuits. Keeping the training relevant to each individuals needs and making a point of keeping each person informed of the training.

Guest yoga and chi gong instructors could also put the clients who chose to participate through a morning routine, to help ground and prepare them; the limits are endless.

Also a graph monitoring each person's fitness and vital signs (improving each week), a battery of tests based around overall health (weight, body composition, physical fitness, flexibility, etc)

Cooking

Food diaries would be a must but they could also be accompanied by sessions were the clients being spoken to by their trainers, nutritionists and also meal plans set to low fat/carb/calorie guidelines

Food Awareness

This section could be brainstorming sessions where clients are coming up with ideas on how to stop and change their normal habits so that when they are facing ‘reality’ they will have some real solutions implemented.

The host/teacher of the session could be white boarding the ideas and encouraging more answers.

Labels, they could have an instructor go through food label awareness and explain to the clients what they are looking for on the labels of foods.

Reality checks that would teach people how to handle BBQ's and birthday parties etc.

Restaurant Excursions

The clients would be taken out to restaurants are made to order their meals in a restaurant but have to adjust and modify the meal so that it works in with there every day diet régime.

Sporting and Fitness Challenges

These would be sporting games and triathlons etc that could be challenges for the teams to win against each other as individuals and as teams. The sports grounds would be modified to create exciting matches of soccer, football, athletics, rugby, velodrome cycling, It could even take on the feel of an overweight Olympics; over the course of their program, becoming harder and longer as the clients become fitter and lose more weight.

Shopping Lessons

Shopping is a major factor in weight loss and raising the awareness of foods and how to shop could be a great tool for clients.

The aim would be to grab groceries relevant to their diet requirements and new way of life. They would need to have a menu or recipe in mind when doing their groceries.

Support Groups

One of the biggest factors of weight loss that is ignored in gyms, weight loss programs and any form of TV show available is the importance of support.

This will be done in round room settings where guests will be encouraged to talk about their problems and reasons why they became over weight, and more important be equipped with the tools of positive self talk, positive affirmations and a holistic approach to self love.

A life coach / doctorate of applied therapies rather than a psychologist will overlook and implement a counselling program to help each person with the opportunity to overcome the issues behind there obesity.

The main objective of the program would be to implement dramatic but safe and informed weight loss and change the current / old way of thinking, acting and living by taking lots of information and hints and tips to allow them to implement in real life situations.

The information used throughout the programs would be from professionals in their fields and would be presented to clients in the form of hand outs which will be added to their user folder so that they are able to refer to them in the future.

These are some of the projects being worked on that can be implemented to be sure that we are doing this with the mentality of once and once only, we don’t want repeat clients but do realise that either some people will need to attend more than one season or that people will have hard times where they struggle every now and then; for this reason we are looking into allowing a rebooking time in the future for a rehab style stay, a weeklong back on track course that will run several times through the year.

“It's the new mindset that I have that ensures I will not re gain my weight, I have to admit it is a lot easier to keep the weight off  then it was getting it off as I can keep on top of a couple of kilos here and there now. I find now thought that it is so much easier not wanting to live how I used to and I promise to all of you people out there who have lost hope and are actually believes of the ‘this is how I have to be’ mentality that there is a better life out there, one of health fitness and self pride. It's the sense of accomplishment and the self esteem gained from knowing that you worked hard the right way and successfully beat the fat, and now own your health and fitness; that is the kind of feelings that you can't get from an operation or a ‘no exercise needed’ magic pill/potion. It is this feeling that I feel every day and I want you to feel it to.”

I personally have spent the last 18months working on this project to not make me financially rich but to make me spiritually rich, knowing that I am helping people who no one else can or will is what will bring me the best reward of all. I am offering and making available something to people where the government does not, other businesses although in the wellness and fitness industry look to capitalize on such people. I have struggled to find investors who also are looking for the same rewards as I am in order to prevent this project becoming expensive for those who need it.

We will also be proposing to private health insurers, work cover and Medicare to see what assistance is available to assist with the cost. “When I went on The Biggest Loser I made a decision at that point in my life that there was now nothing I wasn’t willing to sacrifice in order to get my health and body under control, for once in my life. It was the hardest but best decision I ever made; one that I have never looked back on!”
